Find Instances of a Family Used in the Project

To find elements that use a specific family type, you can highlight them in a view or in the entire project.

  1. Open a project view.
  2. In the Project Browser, locate the desired family type using Search or by expanding the appropriate category and family.
  3. Right-click the type, and click one of the following:
    • Select All InstancesIn Entire Project
    • Select All InstancesVisible in View
    Note: If the current project does not contain any elements that use the family type, the Select All Instances tool is unavailable.

    All elements in the view that use the family type are highlighted.

    In the lower-right corner of the window, the number of selected elements in the project displays.

  4. If you selected "In Entire Project", open other project views.

    Any of the elements that use the family type are highlighted.

    Note: When the "In Entire Project" option is selected, even elements hidden in views either By Category or By Element will be selected. Hidden objects will still be hidden, but they will be selected.
  5. Press Esc to restore the original display of the elements.
