Modify Elements with a Steel Fabrication Shape

Learn about how the Revit Modify tools work with elements with a steel fabrication shape.

Groups Elements with a steel fabrication shape cannot be grouped and a warning message will notify you about this upon trying to include this type of elements in a group.
Note: Generic connections cannot be added to a group, but can be placed on elements in a group. If you select multiple elements, including a generic connection, the group will be created excluding the generic connection and a warning message will inform you about the exclusion. Similarly, if you copy a generic connection using the Array tool, the resulting copies will be groups formed of the input elements without the generic connection.
Assemblies Elements with a steel fabrication shape cannot be included in an assembly and a warning message will notify you about this upon trying to include this type of elements in an assembly.
Design Options Design Options are unavailable for elements with a steel fabrication shape and a warning message will notify you about this.
Array You cannot create an array for elements with a steel fabrication shape because this type of elements cannot be grouped and a warning message will notify you about this.
Split Is unavailable for elements with a steel fabrication shape.
Geometry Tools Are unavailable for elements with a steel fabrication shape.
Copy (CO) Will also copy the holes, bolt or anchor holes and modifiers created on the structural element.
Note: Copy (CO) is an asynchronous process.
Tip: It is recommended that you use the Copy (CO) command from the ribbon, rather than using Copy and Paste. Copy and Paste using the Clipboard may take longer than expected when working with steel fabrication elements.
Copy and Paste using the Clipboard Will also copy the holes, bolt or anchor holes and modifiers created on the structural element.
Note: Copy and Paste using the Clipboard is an synchronous process.
Move Will also move the holes created on the structural element, but not the bolt or anchor holes.
Note: Move is an asynchronous process.
Rotate Will also rotate the holes created on the structural element, but not the bolt or anchor holes.
Note: Rotate is an asynchronous process.
Mirror Will also mirror the holes and bolt or anchor holes created on the structural element.
Note: Mirror is an asynchronous process.
Align Will also move the holes created on the structural element, but not the bolt or anchor holes.
Note: Align is an asynchronous process.
Offset Will also offset the holes and bolt or anchor holes created on the structural element.
Note: Offset is an synchronous process.
Create Similar Works with elements with a steel fabrication shape, but it creates structural columns or frames that do not have a fabrication shape.
Pin and Unpin Work with elements with a steel fabrication shape.
