Invalid Serial Number or Invalid Request Code

The software installation completes successfully. However, when you try to activate and use the software, one of the following error messages displays.

Messages:

Invalid serial number
Invalid request code
The serial number you entered is not valid. Try again.

Issue: After launching Revit for the first time, you entered the serial number for a suite (such as Autodesk Building Design Suite), instead of the serial number for the individual product. These error messages only display when you are using standalone licensing.

Solution:

  1. In the Autodesk Licensing dialog, click Close.
  2. To temporarily enter trial mode, click Try.
  3. In the Autodesk Revit software, click HelpAbout Autodesk Revit 2022.
  4. Click Product License Information.
  5. Check the value entered in the Serial number field.

    You may have entered the serial number for the suite instead of the serial number for the Revit software. If so, edit the value to enter the Revit serial number: click Update, enter the correct serial number, and click Activate.
