Wall sweeps are used to add decorative or additional elements to the flat surface of a wall. Both horizontal and vertical sweeps can be added to a wall. Horizontal sweeps can be added as part of the wall type , so are created on all walls. In the model shown, sweeps are part of the wall type as a parapet cap and sill for the CMU wainscot. For more information on sweeps added to the wall type, refer to help on compound walls.

To add a sweep to a wall , you need to be in a 3D, Section, or Elevation view. In this example , we will add a sweep to the bumped out corners of the building. On the Architecture t ab , click the dropdown arrow on the W all tool, and select W all S weep. On the contextual tab , you can select horizontal or vertical placement. In this example , we will leave the default horizontal placement option selected.

In the drawing area , click on a wall face near where you want the sweep positioned. Add segments to the sweep by clicking adjacent walls. In this example , the other wall making up the corner is selected, the other 2 shorter walls of the corner condition are not selected. Press E nter or click M odify to complete the sweep.

The position of the sweep is adjusted with temporary dimensions or from values in the P roperties palette. End points of a sweep are adjusted with the grips. To return the sweep end to the facing wall, on the contextual tab , click M odify R eturns. Select the end of the sweep that will have a return. A small extension is added to the sweep end. Click M odify to exit the modify returns mode. Now select the sweep and use grips to modify the return to meet the facing walls.

The shape of the sweep is defined by the profile used by the sweep family type. Select the sweep and on the P roperties palette , click E dit T ype. In the T ype Properties dialog, duplicate the type and provide a name for the new sweep. Change the assigned profile to one loaded in the model. If a different shape is needed, you must first load a new profile family. The material of the sweep and the subcategory used for visibility and graphics is assigned by type parameters.

Individual wall sweeps are added to the model to increase the detail level of walls and to model accuracy.
