Video: Adjust a Perspective View

Adjust a perspective view after it has been created using one of three methods, direct manipulation, use the SteeringWheel, or use Fly Mode .

This video demonstrates the following:

  1. Adjust the perspective by moving the camera in a plan view.
  2. Use the SteeringWheel to adjust the view directly.
  3. Use the fly mode to interactively adjust the view.
Note: This video was recorded using Revit 2021. When performing the procedures using Revit LT, you may notice minor differences in functionality and user interface.

Create perspective views in Revit by adding a camera to the model. When you first create the view, it may not be exactly what you need to present the model. Adjust the camera after it is placed to create the perspective view you want to present.

There are a few ways to adjust a perspective view once it is created. First, let's see how to directly manipulate a view by moving the camera icon and adjusting the properties. Start by opening the perspective view and a plan view where the camera will be visible, then on the View tab, click Tile Views. Right-click and select Zoom to Fit in both views.

Select the crop edge of the perspective view. Once selected, you can see the camera icon in the plan view. Click and drag the camera icon to change its position. Click and drag the red dot to adjust the target of what the camera is pointed at. Notice how this affects the perspective view. In the Properties palette, adjust the Camera Eye Elevation and Target Elevation to adjust the camera's height up and down.

As an alternative, use the full navigation SteeringWheel . In the perspective view, click the SteeringWheel icon on the navigation bar. Use the Look Up/Down and Pan sections of the wheel to adjust the direction of the camera in the perspective view. The walk section allows you to move the camera position within the view.

The third way to adjust the perspective of a view is to use the fly mode to change the position of the camera. Click the airplane icon with a perspective view active to enable fly mode. In the fly mode, click and drag to look different directions and use the WASD keys to move the camera. The W and S keys will move the camera forward and backwards respectively. The A and D keys move the camera left and right. In the fly mode, there is no ability to move the camera up and down. The height is changed as the camera is moved forward and backward based on the direction the camera is looking.

Place cameras in your project to create perspective views. Use one of these 3 techniques to adjust the view after it has been created to present the views you need for your presentations.
