Compare BOMs

You can compare the BOM from one revision with the BOM of another revision to see what has changed between revisions. You can also compare the BOM of two different items as well as two different versions of the same item.

Note: This feature is available only in Vault Professional.

Only the properties displayed in the BOM are compared. The differences between the two BOMs are highlighted in the current BOM view.

Note: BOM components are not displayed in BOM compare.

Blue	The row was added or turned on in the displayed BOM, but not in the comparison BOM. Or The row has an item now but was a BOM component in the comparison BOM.
Blue and bold	Values of individual properties are different.
Red strikethrough	The row does not exist or is turned off in the displayed BOM.

Compare the BOM of Two Different Items

1. In the item master, double-click an Item and select the Bill of Materials tab.
2. To compare the Bill of Materials of a different Item with the Item that is currently open, enter a different item number in the Compare field. Item numbers previously entered are available by selecting the drop-down arrow.

    If needed, click the Find button, to search for an Item.

3. Click the Compare drop-down arrow and select a Revision from the list.
4. Click Compare.
5. If you select an Item that is different than the open Item, the available revisions display in the revision drop-down on the toolbar. This includes the revisions for the latest revision and all revisions that have been previously been effective.

   The currently displayed BOM is compared against the Item and revision selected in the BOM toolbar. The differences are highlighted and color coded in the BOM grid. Hover over a row in the BOM to display a tooltip showing the differences found.

Compare a Revision of a BOM with the Displayed Revision

1. In the item master, double-click an item.
2. In the item record, select the Bill of Materials tab.
3. Select a BOM revision from the Revision drop-down list. The corresponding revision of the BOM is displayed.
4. On the BOM Edit toolbar, select a revision of the BOM to compare against the displayed version.
5. Click Compare.

The currently displayed BOM is compared against the revision selected in the BOM toolbar. The differences are highlighted and color coded in the BOM grid. Hover over a row in the BOM to display a tooltip showing the differences found.

Use the navigation controls at the bottom of the BOM to step through the differences one at a time. A description of the current difference is displayed next to the controls.

	Go to the first difference.
	Go to the previous difference.
	Go to the next difference.
	Go to the last difference.

Compare the BOM of Two Different Versions of the Same Item

Note: Show All Item Versions must be turned on to an item's version history.
1. In the item master, double-click an item.
2. In the item record, select the Bill of Materials tab.
3. Select a BOM version from the version drop-down list. The corresponding version of the BOM is displayed.
4. On the BOM Edit toolbar, select a version of the BOM to compare against the displayed version.
5. Click Compare.

The currently displayed BOM is compared against the version selected in the BOM toolbar. The differences are highlighted and color coded in the BOM grid. Hover over a row in the BOM to display a tooltip showing the differences found.

Use the navigation controls at the bottom of the BOM to step through the differences one at a time. A description of the current difference is displayed next to the controls.
