Introducing a new way to modify your Working Pivot.
Pivots are critical to how we interact with objects and components in our scene, and having a method to rapidly adjust the position and orientation of the pivot is important for a modeling and animation workflow.
That's why 3ds Max 2023 is introducing
Snap Working Pivot. Snap Working Pivot is a new method to adjust the Working Pivot while performing a variety of functions, such as using Smart Extrude, adding bones, or rigging.
Through
Tools > Snap Working Pivot Tools, you can access a number of customizable pivot functions, including:
- Place Working Pivot: When active, you can click and place your Working Pivot to any vertex, edge, or face component, or midpoints of those components, of the active object in your scene.
- Align Working Pivot: When active, you can interactively adjust an axis orientation of the Working Pivot by clicking and dragging the axis. The axis will then snap to other valid vertex, edge, or face components on the active object, allowing the pivot to be realigned.
- Selection Pivot: Selection Pivot allows you to align the position and orientation of the Working Pivot to the average of your current vertex, edge, or face selection.
- Create Point From Working Pivot:
A new Pivot Helper object will be added to your scene, aligned to the position and orientation of the Working Pivot, making it more easier than ever to add and align pivots to vertices, edges, or faces.
- Create Grid From Working Pivot: Create a custom grid that is aligned to the current position and orientation of the Working Pivot, which allows you to fluidly work with other grid augmented tools in your scene.
- Place Pivot Bounding Box: When active, an additional set of snap points will be available in your scene based on your current active selection. You can add up to 24 locations when using
Place Working Pivot.
Create Point From Working Pivot
When using the Snap Working Pivot's
Create Point From Working Pivot feature, a new Pivot Helper object will be added to your scene, aligned to the position and orientation of the Working Pivot, making it easier than ever to add and align pivots to work with.
Create Grid From Working Pivot
You can now add a Grid Helper to your 3ds Max scene through Working Snap Pivot's
Create Grid From Working Pivot feature. This allows you to work fluidly with other grid-augmented tools.
