To Work With a Description Defaults File

Create a Description Defaults File

  1. Open a blank file using a text editor such as Notepad.
  2. Enter the description text, one line for each description value.
  3. Save the file selecting a file name and path:
    • Component family-specific file with a .wdd extension (for example, "PB.WDD" for family “PB” push buttons)
    • <project name>.WDD located in the same folder as the .wdp file for the active project
    • WD_DESC.WDD located in an AutoCAD Electrical toolset support folder

Edit a Description Defaults File within AutoCAD Electrical Toolset

  1. Insert or edit a schematic component or panel footprint.
  2. Click Defaults in the Descriptions section.
  3. Click Pick File to browse to a different .wdd file if necessary.
  4. Click Add/Edit.
  5. Enter values and click OK to add an entry to the file.
  6. Click Edit File to open the file in Wordpad where you can edit existing values.
