You can use any plotter configuration to create plot files that can be used with spooling software or given to service bureaus for output.
For example, HP-GL and HP-GL/2 formats are used as an intermediate format for illustration and manufacturing applications, for archive purposes, and for use with a wide range of output devices.
The HP-GL non-system driver supports HP-GL (Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language), a widely used pen plotter language that has vector-only capabilities. Raster objects are not supported by the HP-GL device driver.
The non-system HP-GL/2 driver supports a variety of HP-GL/2 pen plotters and ink-jet plotters. It is a generic HP-GL/2 driver that is not optimized for any particular manufacturer's devices. For example, it does not send PJL commands to devices, as a true Hewlett-Packard driver would. The HP-GL/2 driver supports obsolete pen plotters and newer devices made by manufacturers other than Hewlett-Packard.
