Multi-Purpose H.264 High Profile

The new Streaming Service profile for H.264 files simplifies the export of deliverables of different ratio, resolution, and dynamic range.

The Streaming Service encoding profile, with Compression set to H264 10bit.

The Streaming Service profile exports H.264 QuickTime files at bit rate based on the resolution, ratio, and frame rate of the clip. The files are encoded using the 8-bit or 10-bit H.264 High profiles.

Note: Playing back 10-bit High-encoded files in QuickTime Player requires the Professional Codec Pack.

The following export presets are available in Format Preset > Autodesk > H.264 :

Based on following table, if you export a standard-definition (SD) high-frame rate (HFR) 4K clip, the output is a file encoded at 60 Mbps. These data rates are based on the specifications from popular streaming services .

Resolution Bit Rate (SDR/SFR) Bit Rate (SDR / HFR) Bit Rate (HDR/SFR) Bit Rate (HDR / HFR)
640x360 1 Mbps n/a n/a n/a
854x480 2.5 Mbps n/a m/a n/a
1280x720 5 Mbps n/a 6.5Mpbs n/a

2560x1440 16Mpbs n/a 20 Mbps n/a
3840x2160 40Mpbs 60 Mbps 50Mpbs 70 Mbps
7680x4320 120 Mbps 160 Mbps 150 Mbps 180 Mbps

SDR—Standard Dynamic Range

HDR—High Dynamic Range

SFR—Standard Frame Rate (24, 25, 30 fps)

HFR—High Frame Rate (48, 50, 60 fps)

Using the Streaming Service profiles or presets also allows you to export a multiselection of content. The selected clips can all differ in resolution, frame rate, bit depth, and colour space: the Streaming Service profile will export each clip with its own bit rate. Only the bit depth applies to all.

To export multiple clips using the Streaming Service:

  1. Select the clips to deliver.
  2. Meta+E to open the Export menu.
  3. Set a destination folder.
  4. Set Format Preset > Autodesk > H.264 > QuickTime (Streaming Service High) .
  5. Export.

Each clip is exported with a bit rate that matches its resolution, frame rate, and colour space.

Creating Your Own Encoding Profiles (Advanced)

While this requires understanding encoding specifications, you can create your own multipurpose encoding profile.

  1. Duplicate the file streaming.cdxprof:
    • If you need an 8-bit encoding profile:/opt/Autodesk/mediaconverter/<Flame Family version>/profiles/H264/
    • If you need a 10-bit encoding profile:/opt/Autodesk/mediaconverter/<Flame Family version>/profiles/QuickTime/video/H264_10bit/
  2. Rename your copy of streaming.cdxprof to the name of your preset.
  3. Open our copy in a text editor.
  4. Search for <params presetName="Streaming Service">.
  5. Change Streaming Service for the name of your preset.

This is the name displayed in the menu Media Export > Profile.

  6. Edit the file settings to your specifications.
