About Customizing a Deployment of Civil 3D

Deployments are now created from Autodesk Account. For more information, see Create Deployments from Autodesk Account. In Autodesk Account, after selecting Civil 3D in the panel on the left, click the Customization and Extensions arrows in the panel on the right to expand the menus.

Customizations

The following customization options are available on the Civil 3D deployment page of Autodesk Account.

Create Desktop Shortcut

By default, a metric and an imperial profile are installed. Under Create Desktop Shortcut, you can select the check boxes to create a desktop shortcut and a Windows Start menu shortcut for each profile. Clear the check boxes if you do not want to create the shortcuts.

Configurable Folders

Under the Configurable Folders section of the deployments page, you can specify custom locations for folders with specific content.

Folder name Description
Content Root Contains items such as support files for corridor models and pipe networks.
Data Folder Contains items such as preview drawings, quantities reports style sheets, and layer and corridor standards.
Survey Folder Contains survey files, such as database files and definitions files.
Projects Working Folder The default working folder for projects.

Support Content

Under Support Content, you can choose to install support content (such as customization files, plot styles, and templates) in local user profile folders or in a specified custom folder.

Security Settings

Under Security Settings, you can choose to lock users' security settings and specify a default security level.

Trusted Locations

Under Trusted Locations, you can specify paths to executable files that are trusted to run from within Civil 3D.

Trusted Domain Names

Under Trusted Domain Names, you can specify domain names or URLs from which Civil 3D can run JavaScript code.

When Searching for Executable Files

Specifies whether to exclude or include the Start In and drawing folders when searching for executable files. The Start In folder is the folder in which the Civil 3D executable is located.

When Loading Acad.lsp

Specifies whether to run acad.lsp at the start of the Civil 3D session or when opening each drawing.

Install Optional Tools

Under Install Optional Tools, you can specify whether to install Express Tools and to enable the Migrate Custom Settings tool during install and deployment time. When Migrate Custom Settings is selected, the Migrate Custom Settings Utility is launched during the install and deployment time to guide users to migrate any settings and files from a previous release.

Access to Online Resources

Under Access to Online Resources, you can specify whether to allow users to access online content (such as online Help) when it is available and whether to allow users to access Autodesk Account from within Civil 3D.

Customer Error Reporting Setting

Under Customer Error Reporting Setting, you can specify whether to include the customer name when error reports are submitted and whether to allow users to receive notifications of resolutions related to error reports.

Custom Profile

Under Custom Profile, you can select a custom profile (.arg) file to include in the deployment. The ARG file path can be exported from the Profiles tab in the Options dialog box.

For more information, see How can I include a custom profile into a deployment?.

Note: The desktop icon that is created by the deployment process references the profile's .arg file that is copied from the deployment image. For example: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2023\acad.exe"/product C3D /language "en-US" /p "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2023\enu\Profiles\Profile1.arg". The profile is not stored in the registry until after the first time the software is launched from the desktop icon that corresponds to that profile. After the software is launched for the first time from the desktop icon, the profile is created in the registry under the following area: “\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.2\ACAD-6100:409\Profiles”. The reference within the desktop icon stays the same after running the software for the first time, however, the profile will load from and save to the registry as opposed to continuing to reference the original .arg file from the desktop icon. Deleting the profile in the AutoCAD Options dialog box and then launching the software from the profile's desktop icon will recreate the profile in the registry using the original .arg file from the desktop icon.

Extensions

Under Extensions, you can specify whether to include extensions such as Autodesk Subassembly Composer.
