V-Belts Component Generator dialog box - Calculation tab

This tab extends the Design tab. Calculates generator data based on selections in the Design tab.

Access:

Ribbon: Design tab Power Transmission panel V-Belts and click the Calculation tab.

Type of Calculation

Specifies the strength calculation type you want to use.

Strength Check

Performs a strength check analysis for the selected belt, number of belts, and belt trajectory. The strength check prompts you to increase number of belts if transmission layout can't transmit the appropriate load.

Design Number of Belts

Protects you from selecting the number of belts on the design page. Instead, it gives a recommendation for the number of belts based on load provided, type of belt, and belt trajectory.

Load

Specifies the load to be transmitted by belt power transmission. Load is entered through power, speed, or torque according to the method selected in the list.

Power, Speed Torque

Calculates the torque according to the power and speed.

Power, Torque Speed

Calculates the speed according to the power and torque.

Torque, Speed Power

Calculates the power according to the torque and speed.

Factors

When the Custom box is selected, you must enter values. Otherwise, the factors are determined by the generator as described within Engineer's Handbook

Belt Properties

When the Custom box is selected, you must enter values. Otherwise, the properties are determined from standard data in XML files. These values are recommended as a minimum. Belt manufacturers provide these values within catalogs and they may be different for the same type (size) of the belt among manufacturers.

Belt Tensioning

The Tension Factor to controls initial installation tension of the belt. Follow the practices recommended by the belt manufacturers. If a factor is not set according to the recommendations, the belt horse power rating might not calculate correctly. The installation tension has a big impact on efficiency and belt slip. There is commonly used magnitude of belt tensioning factor from 1.0 up to 1.5. High installation tension might decrease belt lifetime.

Displays additional options for v-belt drive analysis. To display the More Options area, click More in the right lower corner of the Design Tab.

Efficiency torque factor

Controls the edit efficiency to compute correct output power and torque on driven pulleys. This factor describes the level of the quality of belt transmission. The loss of energy that leads to decreased output torque is considered. Factors like belt deformation energy, wind turbulence in grooves, and so on take place. The power loss caused by slip is not included here and it is determined by the generator separately. The combination of these 2 factors results in final belt drive efficiency.

Modify friction with belt speed

Calculates friction. With increased belt speed the friction might change. The value provided describes how much the friction changes with belt speed.

Results

To display the Results area on the right side of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line on the right or click the chevron.

The area displays the current information about belt transmission geometry. Values are calculated when the Calculate command is pressed.

The units of the results values can be changed. Double-click the specified value you want to change.

Summary of Messages

Displays the reports about calculation. To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line at the bottom of tabs or click the chevron at the bottom of the tabs.
