Create harness reports

In the Report Generator dialog box, use Create Reports to select the configuration files used to process reports for the active harness assembly.

The easiest way to create a report is to select one of the sample configuration files that are installed in the Tutorial Files\Cable & Harness\Report Generator folder where Cable and Harness was installed. The sample configuration files are set to create common report types. Custom configuration files that you have created may also be selected. Do not use configuration files from the Wire Library or Wire List folder in the Report Generator.

Note: The assembly must be fully up-to-date before running a report.
  1. Double-click the Harness assembly, and then click Cable and Harness tab Manage panel Report .
  2. In the Report Generator dialog box, select Create Reports.
  3. In the Create Reports dialog box, click Add File to List, navigate to the appropriate configuration file, and then select Open.

An output file is added to the list at the same time as the selected configuration file. The output file name defaults to the harness assembly name with a .txt extension. It is located in the same folder as the associated harness assembly by default.

  4. Once a file is added, you can change the file list as needed:
    • To rename an output file, double-click the output file name, enter the desired name, and then click Open.
Note: If a file by the same name is in the selected folder, you are prompted to replace or enter a new file name before proceeding.
    • To change the location of an output file, double-click the output file name, navigate to the desired location, and then click Open.

The new location is used as the default for subsequent add file operations.

    • To remove a file from the list, click the file to remove, and then click Remove File From List
  5. Repeat Step 3 to add other configuration files as desired.
  6. Click OK to create the reports. Click Cancel to close the Create Reports dialog box.

The reports are processed and the output files are generated with the specified name and location, and then displayed in the Report Generator document window. To change the format or other aspects of a particular report, you can edit the related configuration file.

Note: Text files read into the Report Generator should be created by the Report Generator. Text files created in other applications cause unexpected results.
