Create cooling channel

Create cooling channels at specified distance from two linear edges

  1. In the Mold Layout tab, click Cooling Channel.
  2. In the Create Cooling Channel dialog box, select the Linear placement method.
  3. In the graphics window, specify the cooling channel position:
    • Select a face on which to place the cooling channel.
    • Select two linear edges to dimension the cooling channel placement.
    • Edit the dimensions to correct the placement of the cooling channel.
  4. Specify the cooling channel type. Select Insert Counterbore, Insert Opposite Counterbore, Insert Pipe Thread, Insert Over Drill, or Insert Opposite Pipe Thread.
  5. Under Drill Point, select the type of drill point. If you select the Angle drill point, enter the required angle.
  6. Select a Termination method.
    Distance
    Set a value in the graphics window to specify the length of the cooling channel. Symmetrical is disabled, and the following are available to select:
    • Insert Counterbore
    • Insert Pipe Thread
    • Insert Over Drill
    To
    Click a surface or extended face to terminate the cooling channel. Click To Next or To Previous to move the cooling channel to the next or previous surface or face. Symmetrical is enabled, and the following are available to select:
    • Insert Counterbore
    • Insert Opposite Counterbore
    • Insert Pipe Thread
    • Insert Opposite Pipe Thread
    Through All
    The cooling channel generates from the start face to the end face in the mold base. Symmetrical is enabled, and the following are available to select:
    • Insert Counterbore
    • Insert Opposite Counterbore
    • Insert Pipe Thread
    • Insert Opposite Pipe Thread
  7. Set the values for the cooling channel in the subdialog box for each segment feature.
    Modify Counterbore
    Click the arrow to select a value, or enter a new value. Click Chamfer to make chamfer available or unavailable.
    Modify Thread
    Click Taper Thread to make a selection. Specify the thread type and size, and the right-hand or left-hand direction. Inventor automatically determines the designation and thread length.
    Modify Diameter
    Select one value, or enter a value directly.
    Modify Over Drill
    Use the Measure tool, or enter a value.
  8. Click OK.

Create cooling channels by using a cooling sketch

  1. In the Mold Layout tab, click Cooling Channel.
  2. In the Create Cooling Channel dialog box, select the From Sketch placement method.
  3. In the graphics window, specify the cooling channel position:
    • Click Referenced Line and select one sketch line.
    • If necessary, click Auto-fit.
    • Click Start Plane and select a planar face as the start face for the cooling channel.
  4. Specify the cooling channel type. Select Insert Counterbore, Insert Opposite Counterbore, Insert Pipe Thread, Insert Over Drill, or Insert Opposite Pipe Thread.
  5. Under Drill Point, select the type of drill point. If you select Angle, enter the required angle.
  6. The Termination box is disabled. Click Symmetrical to set the segment feature.
  7. Set the values for the cooling channel in the subdialog box for each segment feature.
    Modify Counterbore
    Click the arrow to select a value, or enter a new value. Click Chamfer to make chamfer available or unavailable.
    Modify Thread
    Click Taper Thread to make a selection. Specify the thread type and size, and the right-hand or left-hand direction. Inventor automatically determines the designation and thread length.

    Select one value, or enter a value directly.
    Modify Over Drill
    Use the Measure tool, or enter a value.
  8. Click OK.

Create cooling channels with an existing cooling channel

  1. In the Mold Layout tab, click Cooling Channel.
  2. In the Create Cooling Channel dialog box, select the From Channel placement method.
  3. In the graphics window, specify the cooling channel position:
    • Click On Point, and select the point on the cooling channel where you want the new channel to intersect.
    • Click Start Plane, and select a planar face as the start face for the cooling channel.
  4. Specify the cooling channel type. Select Insert Counterbore, Insert Opposite Counterbore, Insert Pipe Thread, Insert Over Drill, or Insert Opposite Pipe Thread.
  5. Under Drill Point, select the type of drill point. If you select Angle, enter the required angle.
  6. Select a Termination method.
    Distance

Edit cooling channels

  1. In the Mold Design browser, under Cooling & Heating Components, right-click a Cooling Segment node, and then click Edit Feature.
  2. The settings and values in the dialog box are read from the data of the selected segment. The preview is drawn in red.
  3. In the Cooling Channel dialog box, modify the parameters.
  4. Click OK.
