Log files save the task processing information so you can understand how the task progressed.
By default, whenever a task runs, its details are collected in a log file. The Log File option in the Task Scheduler task shows the log file folder name, which you can change. This name and location overrides the log file specified in Task Scheduler’s Settings Options Log File Options window. When you run a task, the task’s report window shows a hyperlink to the log file.
When you create a task, you can also use the Add Time Stamp to Log File Name button to add a time stamp to the log file and create a log file each time you run a task. If you schedule a task for a later time, the link to the log file in the report window does not appear until the task runs.
The log file is a text file containing detailed information about the results of the task for each individual file. You can copy these results into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for viewing.
