Inventor and Revit use OmniClass 2006 classifications as their default. You can switch to OmniClass 2012 if you wish to use that version.
IMPORTANT: It is only possible to use this workflow with an English Inventor version. Using it with a localized version causes the loss of all values.
Inventor uses a file called Categories.xml as the source. It contains the OmniClass classifications paired with the Revit categories. The file
Categories_2012.xml is also installed and is used to provide the OmniClass 2012 classifications.
Note:
- Categories_2012.xml contains only OmniClass 2012 classifications. It does not contain Revit category mapping. The "Generic Model" Family Category is used for all OmniClass 2012 classifications by default.
- The ADSK file format does not support OmniClass 2012 classifications.
- We recommend that you keep backup copies of both Categories_2006.xml and Categories_2012.xml to use in the event one gets miscopied or corrupted.
How to switch versions:
- Confirm Inventor is not running.
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor XXXX\Bin\BIM Content Design Data\Support
- Copy Categories_2012.xml.
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor XXXX\Bin\BIM Content Design Data\Support\Authoring Templates\en-US.
- Paste Categories_2012.xml into the language folder.
- Rename Categories.xml to Categories_2006.xml.
- Rename the pasted file to Categories.xml
- Start Inventor.
You should have the 2012 OmniClass categories to work with.
