Segment Properties dialog box

Adds, modifies, and removes properties on selected segments, and assigns or removes virtual parts. Also displays routed wire and cable information for reference.

Access:

With the harness assembly active, select the segment to edit, right-click, and then select Harness Properties from the context menu.

Occurrence Tab

Segment Name

Displays the segment name, which is the name displayed in the browser.

Length

Displays the current segment length.

Adjusted Length

Displays the length, plus the value entered for the Service Loop property, if the property exists for the selected segment

Radius of Smallest Bend

Displays the radius of the smallest bend in the segment.

Adjusted Diameter

When a loom is assigned, displays the diameter of the segment with the loom attached. When a loom is not assigned, it displays the current diameter (calculated or fixed).

  • For fixed diameter looms, the adjusted diameter is the maximum diameter of the loom, plus 2 times the thickness of the loom.
  • For variable diameter looms, the adjusted diameter is equal to the cumulative diameters of the wires routed through the segment plus 2 times the thickness of the loom.
  • For multiple attached looms, the adjusted diameter is determined by the outermost loom. The diameter continues to increase according to the type of looms assigned.

Bend Radius

Sets or displays the bend radius multiplier for the segment. Can be set to calculate from wires routed through the segment or use a fixed value.

Calculate from Wires sets a calculated or fixed value.

Diameter

Sets the segment diameter as either calculated (non editable) or fixed diameter. If the diameter is fixed, the value can be edited.

Calculate Size from Wires sets a calculated or fixed value.

Display

Appearance

Sets or displays the segment appearance. When From Loom check box is cleared, you can click the arrow to select a different appearance from the list.

From Loom sets whether to display the segment using the appearance from the loom or from the segment.

Display

Sets rendered or centerline display for the selected segment.

Centerline

Rendered

List of attached looms

Displays the order in which the loom is placed when multiple looms are attached to the selected segment. Loom order is set when the loom is created or when modifying wire or segment properties. A loom order of 1, means the loom is the first loom placed on the harness object. The order of the loom also determines the size of the loom to attach.

Click a loom in the list, and then click the appropriate arrow to increase or decrease the order of placement.

Wire/Cables tab

Lists the wires and cables routed through the segment.

Virtual Parts tab

Type

Selects the type of virtual part, such as loom or label.

Category

Selects the category in which the desired virtual part is located (optional). The last selection becomes the new default.

Name

Selects the name of the desired virtual part in the Cable & Harness Library. The last selection becomes the new default.

Add

Adds a new virtual part to the list.

Delete

Removes the selected virtual part from the list.

Virtual part list

Lists the virtual parts assigned to the selected object along with the type, category, and name.

Custom tab

Name

Displays the entered property name. Click in the input area to enter a new property, or click the arrow to select reserved or existing properties from the list.

The predefined, or reserved properties include:

Service Loop adds extra length to all wires contained in the harness segment. The adjusted length value of the segment and the wires increases by the specified value. Length is not added to segments or wires in the harness, only to the adjusted length value.

Max Diameter maximum diameter a dynamic segment may go to without causing an error.

Max Percent Full the maximum value of the ratio of the wires in the segment to the maximum segment size.

Type

Data type for the selected property. Click the arrow to select an appropriate data type from the list.

Value

Enter a value for the selected property, if desired.

Add

Adds a new property to the list.

Modify

Changes the selected property's name, type, or value.

Delete

Removes the selected property from the list.
