To Update Files or Projects with Task Scheduler

Updates selected Inventor projects and files at a scheduled time and edits existing update design tasks.

The default task opens files, updates them, updates dependencies, and saves files, overwriting the previous versions.

You can update Inventor part files (*.ipt), assembly files (*.iam), drawing files (*.idw, .dwg), and iFeature files (*.ide) on a local machine. Local files are output to local folders only.

  1. In the Inventor Task Scheduler window, click Update Design .

The information in the task list switches to show any update design tasks that you saved previously.

  2. In the Inventor Task Scheduler window, right-click, and select Create Task Update Design.
  3. In the Update Design dialog select any of these options:
    • Add Project. Specifies an active Autodesk Inventor project. All supported files in the project are updated.
    • Add Folder. Specifies a folder to include in the task. Your selection includes the folder’s Inventor files and their dependencies. If you choose Add Folder, you have two further options: include subfolders (click in the Recursive column) and specify file types to include (click in the File Name column).
    • Add Files. Specifies individual files.

If necessary, repeat the steps to add more files and folders.

  4. In the Task Properties box, enter a task name and a time-out threshold.
  5. Specify a schedule, or select Immediately.
  6. Click Options. Set options to apply to all files in the task.
    • Total Rebuild. To take advantage of new functionality or performance enhancements, set to On.
    • Make All Raster Drawing Views Precise. Converts all raster views to precise views. If you use this option, Autodesk recommends that you select .idw/.dwg in the File Name column of the Update Design dialog.
    • Update Local Materials and Appearances. Automatically updates all local materials and appearance to the selected library in the active project.
    • Note: When specifying a folder, the File Name column provides control to filter to the type of files you want to perform the selected task on.

It is recommended to select .idw/.dwg when converting raster to precise.

Please note that Skip migrated file and Skip unresolved references will filter these conditions out of the task.

  7. To run the task as scheduled, In the Update Design dialog box, click OK.
