Force

Applies force of a specified magnitude to a beam or node you select.

Access:

Ribbon: Frame Analysis tab Loads panel Force

Origin

The command is active when the dialog box is displayed. Select either node or beam on which to apply the load.

Direction

Specifies the force direction. The default direction is normal to the selected beam or node, and with the magnitude value.

The Direction selector is automatically active allowing you to select geometry to define a different load direction.

The Flip load direction command inverts the direction of the selected vector.

Magnitude

Specify the force magnitude.

Offset

Specify the offset of the force.

You cannot set the value when you select a node as the origin.

Angle of Plane

Specify rotation of XY plane where force is acting.

Angle in Plane

Define the angle of the applied force from the Z axis.

OK

Create the force and close the dialog box.

Cancel

Close the dialog box without creating the force.

Apply

Create the force and keep the dialog box open. Click when you want to create multiple forces.

Expands the dialog box to reveal additional controls for specifying the force vector.

Vector components

Enables vector controls so that you can define more explicitly the force load vector. Specify the magnitude for the appropriate vector components for:

Vector components

  • Fx = X component
  • Fy = Y component
  • Fz = Z component

Coordinate System

Specify the coordinate system where the force is acting.

This selection is available only if you select the beam as origin reference.

Offset

Select if the offset value is entered as relative, or absolute.

The relative distance means factor of absolute distance from the beam beginning. The value can be from 0 to 1. For example, if you have 3-inch long beam and you set relative distance to 0.5 ul, the absolute origin distance is computed to 1.5 inch.

This selection is available only if you select the beam as origin reference.

Context Menu commands

Edit

Displays the Force dialog box where you modify the values originally placed on the force.

Suppress

Removes the selected force from the components being analyzed.

Delete

Deletes the selected force.
