Band Brake Calculator dialog box

Calculates the braking torque, forces, pressures, basic dimensions, and necessary time and revolutions for stopping. Use to design and calculate band brakes.

Note: Only constant braking torque is taken into account.

Force

Selects the input and output parameters.

f, T, D F

Calculates Input Force according to the Friction Factor, Torque, and Outside Diameter.

T, D, F f

Calculates Friction Factor according to the Torque, Outside Diameter and Input Force.

f, D, F T

Calculates Torque according to Friction Factor, Outside Diameter and Input Force.

f, T, F D

Calculates Outside Diameter according to the Friction Factor, Torque, and Input Force.

Friction Factor

Specifies the value you enter or the coefficient in the table.

Brake Torque

Specifies the value of the Brake Torque.

Input Force

Specifies the value of the Input Force acting on the brake.

Outside Diameter

Specifies the value of the Outside Diameter you enter.

Schema

 

Displays the scheme of the selected brake.

Pressure

 

Specifies the parameters you enter.

Calculates Break Pressure according to Width, Length, and Input Force.

b, p, F l

Calculates Length according to Width, Break Pressure, and Input Force.

l, p, F b

Calculates Width according to Length, Break Pressure, and Input Force.

b, l, p F

Calculates Input Force according to Width, Length, and Break Pressure.

Number of Brakes

Specifies a value for the Number of Brakes.

Width

Specifies a value for the brake width.

Length by Angle

Specifies a value for the Length by Angle.

Brake Pressure (Max.)

Calculates the value for Brake Pressure. Enter the maximum allowable limit value to the second field.

Brake Pressure.Speed (max.)

Calculates the value for Brake Pressure times Speed. Enter the maximum allowable limit value to the second field.

Energy

 

Enters the parameters. Click the arrow in the Start Energy box to enter parameters and calculate the start energy in the Start Energy dialog box.

T t

Calculates Brake Time according to Brake Torque.

t T

Calculates Brake Torque according to Brake Time.

Start Speed

Specifies a value for the Start Speed of the braking element.

End Speed

Specifies a value for the required End Speed.

Start Energy

Specifies a value for Start Energy, or you can click the arrow next to the edit field to open the Start Energy dialog box and enter extra parameters such as Moment of Inertia, Revolutions, and so on.

Brake Time

Specifies a value for Brake Time.

Results

 

Displays the calculated values.

Summary of Messages area

Displays the reports about calculation. To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the tab, double-click the double line at the bottom of tabs or click the chevron.
