Replace assembly components in patterns

You can replace all occurrences of a part in an assembly pattern element with another part. If possible, relationships and iMates are retained. If the replacement part has a different shape, and some relationships do not survive, reapply them.

  1. Click to expand a pattern element in an assembly pattern.
  2. In the browser, select a part to replace in the pattern element.
  3. Right-click, and then select Component Replace .
  4. In the Open dialog box, go to the folder that contains the replacement part, select the part, and then click Open.
  5. A message notifies you that relationships and iMates are retained, if possible. Click OK to continue or Cancel to discontinue replacing a part.

Multiple occurrences of the new pattern component are placed in the same location as the original pattern component. The origin of the replacement pattern component is coincident with the origin of the replaced pattern component. If some relationships are not retained, apply the necessary assembly relationships to remove degrees of freedom.

Note: When multiple instances of the same component exist in each element of an assembly pattern, not all occurrences of the component in the pattern are replaced. Location in the directory structure is considered for the replacement in this case. To replace all occurrences, click Assemble tab Component panel Replace All .
