You can work with command aliases in two ways: in the command alias input dialog or in the status bar.
Work with the Command Alias Dialog
- Make sure the command alias dialog is enabled on the General tab of the Application Options dialog (File Options).
You can also enable Autocomplete on that tab.
- In Inventor’s graphics area, enter a few letters. The command alias dialog appears.
- If AutoComplete is enabled, possible matches from existing aliases appear in a list. Press the spacebar, Enter, or right-click to execute the first command in the list, or click any command in the list.
- Red indicates an invalid alias. To remove the letter you typed, use Backspace.
- If another command that does not display a dialog is active when you display the command alias dialog, the active command is suspended. To cancel the active command and execute the alias, select the alias. To return to the active command and close the dialog, click Cancel in the dialog. To cancel the active command and close the dialog, press Esc.
- To accept the command alias you typed, press the spacebar or Enter, or right-click.
Work with the Status Bar
- Make sure the command alias dialog is disabled on the General tab of the Application Options dialog (File Options).
Note: The Show Autocomplete option has no effect when the command alias dialog is disabled.
- Enter the first few characters of a command name. The characters appear in the status bar.
- If there is no ambiguity in the alias, the command automatically starts.
- If you enter an invalid alias, the text in the status bar appears in red. This might happen if the command alias exists but is not valid in the current environment. For example, the alias for the Hole command is not valid in the sketch environment. To remove the letter you typed, use Backspace.
- If your input is ambiguous, use Tab or the Up or Down arrow key to navigate to a command in the status bar.
- If another command that does not display a dialog box is active when you enter a character, the active command is suspended. To cancel the active command and execute the command alias, select the command alias. To return to the active command, press Backspace and eliminate the characters in the status bar. To cancel the active command and eliminate characters in the status bar, Press Esc.
- Press the spacebar or Enter to execute the command. (Right-clicking does not execute a command in the status bar.)
