Create wires
Use Create Wire to create a wire between two pins within a harness assembly. The pins can exist on electrical components (connectors) or splices. The wire that is created is selected from the Cable & Harness Library.
The wire is created as rendered or centerline and with or without natural curvature depending on the selected display setting. The wire appearance and diameter depend on the library wire definition.
Note: Multiple wires can connect to the same pin. A single wire cannot begin and end on the same pin or splice.
- On the ribbon, click Cable and Harness tab Create panel Create Wire .
- In the Wire ID, enter a unique ID or accept the default.
- Accept the default wire listed, or select a different wire from the Cable & Harness Library. To choose a different wire, optionally select a wire category from the list, and then select the desired wire name from the Name list. The wires listed vary depending on the selected category.
The Default Library Wire is the default for the first wire you create in a harness assembly.
- Click Pin 1, and then select the first (start) pin for the wire:
Tip: Pause the cursor over a pin to view a tooltip with the RefDes and pin name for that pin.
- When Pin 2 is active, click the graphics window to select the second (end) pin for the wire. Pin 1 and Pin 2 must be unique.
Tip: To preview the wire before selecting, pause the cursor over the second pin. The wire is drawn as a line between the 2 pins.
- To create the wire, click Apply.
- To view the properties for the created wire, click Properties.
The wire occurrence's base properties are inherited from the library wire. The library wire can only be edited from within the Cable & Harness Library.
- Continue placing additional wires as needed.
- Click OK.
