Cross Pin Generator dialog box - Calculation Tab

This tab extends the Design tab. Calculates generator data based on selections in the Design tab.

Access:

Ribbon: Design tab Fasten panel Cross Pin and click the Calculation tab.
Note: The Calculate command is available only if a pin is selected.

Type of Strength Calculation

Determines which are input parameters and which parameters are to be calculated. Select the calculation method in the list.

Note: The selection list is enabled only if a pin is selected.

Pin Design

Designs optimum cross pin dimensions for the indicated load, dimensions and joint properties.

Check Calculation

Performs a strength check for the specified load, dimensions, and joint properties.

Loads

Use Force F to enter Loading.

Dimensions

Pin Dimension

Choose a diameter of the pin.

Pin Length

Determines the length of the pin.

Draw Rod Diameter

Enter the diameter of the draw rod. Based on this dimension, the appropriate cross pin is selected. To manually enter the diameter or measure the diameter from Autodesk Inventor, use the options displayed after you click the arrow next to edit field.

Sleeve Diameter

Specifies the diameter of the sleeve according to the part dimensions. If the sum of the draw rod and sleeve widths is not equal to the working pin length, the unequal widths turn red. This also indicates that the strength check of the pin is not satisfactory. Based on this dimension the appropriate sleeve is selected. You can enter the diameter or measure the diameter from Autodesk Inventor using the options displayed when you click the arrow next to the edit field.

Note: The values in the edit field that are not satisfactory turn red when you click Calculate.

Joint Properties

Service Factor

Represents a Type of Loading and type of Mounting. The allowed material value is lowered according to the selected type. Click next to the edit field to open the Service Factor dialog box where you can select the Service Factor value.

Desired Safety

With regards to accuracy and credibility of input information, importance of the coupling, quality of production and accuracy of the calculation, it is chosen in a range from 1.5 to 10.

Pin Material

Warning: Strength parameters of material are determined empirically and reflect minimum values applicable for a group of materials. Although these values are close to the values obtained using measurement of particular materials, we recommend in cases of final calculations to use the parameters of material according to the material sheet or specifications of the producer.

Material

Specifies material values you enter or select from the Material Database.

If a material is selected from the Material Database, its values are inserted automatically into the following 3 edit fields, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field, clear the check box.

Allowable Shear Stress

Specifies allowable pin shear stress for the calculation. The pin is checked for shear during the strength check.

Draw Rod Material

Material

You can specify your own material values or select a material from the Material Database.

If a material is selected from Material Database, its values are inserted automatically into the following 3 edit fields, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field, clear the check box.

Allowable Pressure

Enter the allowable pressure of the draw rod material with the least quality in the Joint Properties group. The draw rod is checked for pressure during the strength check.

Sleeve Material

Material

You can specify material values or select a material from Material Database.

If a material is selected from the Material Database, its values are inserted automatically into the following 3 edit fields, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field, clear the check box.

Allowable Pressure

Enters the allowable pressure of the sleeve material with the least quality in the Joint Properties group. The sleeve is checked for pressure during the strength check.

Results

To display the Results area on the right side of the Calculation tab, double-click the double line on the right or click the chevron.

The area displays the calculated values and the cross pin strength check. Values are calculated when you click Calculate.

The units of the results values can be changed. Double-click the specified value you want to change.

Summary of Messages

To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line at the bottom of tabs or click the chevron at the bottom of the tabs. It displays the reports about calculation.
