Create and edit cable and harness nailboards

Create a nailboard from the cable and harness environment

  1. In the browser, double-click the harness assembly to document.
  2. On the ribbon, click Cable and Harness tab Manage panel Nailboard .
  3. In the Open template dialog box, click the template to use, and then click OK.

Create a nailboard view from an open drawing

  1. From an open drawing, click Place Views tab Create panel Nailboard and select the harness assembly to document.
  2. If the assembly contains multiple harness assemblies, click the arrow under Harness Assembly and select the assembly to document from the list.
  3. If the assembly is a member in a configuration, click the arrow and select the member to use.
  4. Click OK and place the view.

Edit nailboard sketch

After a nailboard drawing is created, you can edit the nailboard sketch to place dimensions, move wires, edit properties, create reports, or make other modifications. When you edit the nailboard sketch, the sketch environment is active by default. You can also access the commands on the Nailboard tab.

  1. Open an Inventor drawing (*.idw or *.dwg) that contains a nailboard view.
  2. To edit the nailboard sketch, do one of the following:
    • Click Nailboard tabEdit panelEdit.
    • Expand the Nailboard view in the browser, then right-click on the sketch, and select Edit.
  3. Make the modifications.
  4. Use the Finish Sketch command to return to the drawing environment.

Set visibility for all looms and labels

  1. Verify the browser is set to Cable & Harness.
  2. In the nailboard browser, select a nailboard drawing, right-click, and then select Nailboard Settings.
  3. Click the check box to set the display behavior. You can choose to show all looms, all labels, or both. When set to show, you can control visibility on the individual occurrences in the nailboard using the context menu.
  4. Click OK.

Set visibility for individual looms and labels

When the Nailboard Display is set to show, you can control visibility on individual occurrences in the nailboard drawing.

  1. To control visibility of loom occurrences, do one of the following:
    • In the browser or graphics window, right-click a segment with a loom attached, and then select Display as Loom from the context menu.
    • In the browser, right-click a loom, and then select Visibility from the context menu.
  2. To control visibility of label occurrences:
    • In the browser, right-click a label and select Visibility.
    • In the browser or graphics window, right-click a cable wire pin, wire pin, or segment work point, and then select Display label from the context menu.

Defer updates for cable and harness nailboard

Using standard drawing manager functionality, you can defer automatic updates on open for nailboard drawings. Deferring updates keeps the drawing static until an update is forced.

  1. Click File Open.
  2. Highlight a nailboard drawing file, and then click Options.
  3. Click Defer Updates.
  4. Click OK.

To force an update, click Tools tab Options panel Document Settings Drawing , and clear the Defer Updates check box.

Control fan state and display behavior for new harness nailboards

The dialog box you use to set the nailboard display behavior depends on how you create the nailboard.

  1. On the appropriate dialog box, click the button representing the fan state to use.

    Fan in

    Fan out

  2. Set the display behavior.
    • For wire stubs to fan out, set the angle and click the sort direction button.

      Clockwise

      Counter clockwise

    • For wire stubs to fan in, click the button representing the display behavior.

      Display as Segment to use the diameter and appearance of the segment and the length of the longest wire.

      Display as Longest Wire to use the diameter, appearance, and length of the longest wire.

  3. Click OK.
