Add a new definition to the Cable & Harness library

Use the New command in the Cable & Harness Library to add a new library definition, such as a wire, cable, raw wire cable, splice or other definition type including a user-defined definition. You can group the new definition into existing categories or categories you create, if needed. Other optional properties can also be set, along with any custom properties you need.

  1. On the ribbon, click Cable and Harness tab Manage panel Library .
  2. In the Cable & Harness Library dialog box, click the arrow to select the library definition from the type list, and then click New .
  3. On the General tab enter a unique wire Name under the Properties section.
  4. Cable and Wire definition:
    • Select the Outer Diameter setting:
      • For a fixed diameter, clear the check box and enter a diameter value
      • For a variable diameter, select the Calculate from Wires check box.
    • Cable definition only: Click the Wires tab, and then click Add to add wires to the cable definition. You must add at least one wire.
      • In the Add Wires dialog box, select a wire from the list of library wires, and then click Add.
Tip: You can also right-click the library wire in the list, and then select Add to Cable. Double-clicking the wire in the list also adds the wire.
      • Continue adding wires until all wires that make up the cable are added, and then click OK.
      • Note: The wires must exist in the library before the library cable definition can be created.
  5. Splice definition:
    • Enter an embedded length.
    • Click a button to determine whether a range of values or a fixed value is allowed for the gauge or size of wires inserted into the splice.
    • Enter a Core Size and Gauge.
  6. Raw ribbon cable
    • Under Physical group, enter the appropriate physical characteristics for the raw ribbon cable.
  7. Fill out the other fields as needed.
  8. Click the Custom tab and add additional properties to the library definition, if needed.

The Name list includes property names given to other wires in the Wire Library, and the Type list includes possible data types that can be assigned to properties. The property names and values are not case sensitive, however, the case entered is maintained for future display of the property name and value.

  9. Click Apply to save the library wire definition to the library, and then continue editing that library wire. Click OK to create the wire definition and close the dialog box.
Note: If the required properties are not defined or if the values entered not correct, the entry in question is highlighted red to indicate that it must be changed or entered. Make the needed corrections before proceeding.
  10. Click Save to save the definition to the library, and then click Close to close the dialog box.
