Control Add-in Behavior

As an Administrator, you can manage the add-ins are that are loaded by modifying and then deploying AddInLoadRules.xml. The file installs to: :%INSTALLDIR%\Preferences\AddInLoadRules.xml.

  1. In a text editor open AddInLoadRules.xml to view the rules and examples of the rules for managing add-ins, and then modify as desired.

    The rules for managing add-ins include:

    • Specifying when to use trusted paths.
    • Allowing or blocking based on publisher name.
    • Blocking a particular add-in based on its ID.
    • What to do if no other rules apply to an add-in.
  2. Deploy the file to your users: There are 2 ways you can deploy the file:
    Option 1
    • Copy the file from the User Override location to the Administrator overrides location on each target workstation.
    Option 2
    • Add the file to a deployment using Additional Files.
