Point clouds are large data sets composed of 3D point data.
Point clouds are only viewable in 3D. In any other mode, you'll see a bounding box where the point cloud data is in your drawing.
Note: Point clouds are not supported on 32-bit systems. To work with point clouds, you need a 64-bit system, and hardware acceleration must be turned on.
Add a Point Cloud to a Map
- At the Command prompt, enter
pointcloudattach.
- In the Select Point Cloud File dialog box, select the
.rcp (project file) or
.rcs (scan file) file for the point cloud data store to add to your map
- Click Open.
AutoCAD Map 3D toolset adds the point cloud drawing object to your map.
Create a Point Cloud Layer
Use this task to create a point cloud layer for point cloud objects that are already in your map.
- Click DataAdd Point Cloud DataFrom drawing object.
- In the Select Point Cloud dialog box, select the point cloud object or objects.
- To add point cloud objects to a Display Manager group, select Group Selection.
- Click OK.
AutoCAD Map 3D toolset adds a point cloud layer to the Display Manager.
Adjust the Display Density of Point Clouds in a Map
- At the Command prompt, enter
pointcloudlod (point cloud level of density).
- Enter a value from 1 to 10.
