Optimize scene size

Several functions are available in Maya to decrease the size and complexity of your scene.

Use the Optimize Scene Size window to remove empty, invalid, and unused information from your scene. For example, if you get error messages about mental ray Unknown Nodes, open the Optimize Scene Size options and choose Unknown Nodes from the list.

To open the Optimize Scene Size options:
Note: Changes made with Optimize Scene Size cannot be undone. Save your file with a different name before optimizing to avoid overwriting your original.
To... Do this

Remove construction history from the selected object(s).

Only do this if you are sure you do not need to edit the objects’ history again.

Select the objects and select Edit > Delete by Type > History. For more information, see Construction history.

Do not save panel layouts with the scene.

In the UI Elements preferences (Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences), turn off Save Panel Layouts with File.

Remove unused file references.

Select File > Reference Editor.

In the Reference Editor, select File > Clean Up Reference.

Delete static animation channels.

Edit > Delete by Type > Static Channels. For more information, see Channels or Static Channels Options.
