You can use a
Smooth Mesh Preview to view and edit what a smoothed version of a mesh will look like. Once preview looks the way you want it, you can then apply the smoothed version directly to the affected mesh.
Note:
Caching smooth meshes can cause poor performance and consume large amounts of memory. You can disable
Smooth Mesh Preview using the
Cache Smooth Meshes option in the
Cached Playback Preferences.
To convert a smooth mesh preview to polygons
- Select the mesh(es) that you want to convert and ensure that
Smooth Mesh Preview is turned on. See
Preview a smoothed mesh.
- Select
Modify > Convert > Smooth Mesh Preview to Polygons.
The original version of the mesh (the cage) is smoothed using the
Smooth Mesh Preview attributes. Maya copies these attributes to a new polySmooth node.
Note: The
Smooth Mesh Preview options are set in the
Smooth Mesh section of the polyShape tab of the
Attribute Editor. For more information on the
Smooth Mesh Preview attributes, see
Smooth Mesh.
