Batch render a still or animation

You can batch render in two ways: from within Maya or via the command line renderer. See Render from the command line.

To batch render from within Maya

  1. Specify the frames that you want to render.

By default, Maya renders the current frame of your scene. To render an animation, you must specify the start and end frames of the animation you want to render in the Render Settings window, Common tab.

In the Frame/Animation ext drop-down list, select any of the options with a #; for example: name.#.ext. The Start frame and End frame attributes in the Frame Range section become active, where you can set your frame range.

  2. Click Render > Batch Render to batch render.
  3. You can also do any of the following:
    • To cancel the render, click Render > Cancel Batch Render.
    • To show the image being rendered, click Render > Show Batch Render.
      Note:
      • To set batch render options, select Render > Batch Render > to open the Batch Render window. For a description of the batch render options, see Batch Render Options.
      • When using the Maya Batch Renderer on a remote machine the User Account information (i.e. username) must be consistent between the machines to ensure that User Authentication will function correctly.
      • If your renders come out black, but work in the Render Current Frame window, delete any unused nodes in the Hypershade window. See Delete Unused Nodes in the Hypershade Edit menu.
      • On Linux, you can select a remote host on which to render the current scene.
