Load a script file into the Script Editor

Select File > Open Script to load a MEL or Python script from a file.

A new tab is created for this file. Maya recognizes the language in your file, and adds either a MEL or Python icon to the tab, and renames it to be the name of your file.

Mouseover the tab and a tooltip appears that indicates the path of your file.

As you modify the file in this tab, a * is appended to the tab name to indicate that the file has been updated.

Select File > Save Script to save your changes directly to the file. If you close the Script Editor or Maya without saving the file, a dialog appears prompting you to save your changes.

If you modify the script file outside of Maya; for example, in a text editor, a dialog appears in Maya prompting you to reload the file.

If you delete the script file outside of Maya, a dialog appears asking if you want to keep the file in the Script Editor.

When you close or re-open the Script Editor or Maya, all of your loaded files are restored.
