Work with Columns

Move a Column

  1. Open the TimeLiner window, and click the Tasks tab.
  2. Position the mouse over the header of the column you want to move, and press the left mouse button.
  3. Drag the column header to the desired location, and release the left mouse button.

Resize a Column

  1. Open the TimeLiner window, and click the Tasks tab.
  2. Select the grid line at the right border of the column header of the column you want to resize.
  3. Drag to the right to enlarge the column, or to the left to shrink it.

Specify Sort Order

  1. Right-click the header of the column you want to sort by, and click Sort Ascending or Sort Descending.

    Note:
    • Ascending order sorts rows by that column, starting with the smallest value and ending with the largest value (for example: a-z, 1-9, Monday-Friday). The sorting is numerically logical, so, for example, B10 will be displayed after B9, and not B1. Descending order sorts rows by that column starting with the largest value and ending with the smallest value.
    • If you move tasks up or down in the hierarchy, then sort by ascending or descending order, the sort order will be applied to all tasks and any movement of tasks will be overridden.
    • The task hierarchy is preserved during the sorting process, so that tasks are sorted first by container, then by container contents.
    • If sorting is selected on the Status column, tasks will be effectively grouped by their status, for example, all tasks with a status of Early Start will be grouped together, and all tasks with a status of Early Finish will be grouped together.

Add a User Column

  1. In the TimeLiner window > Tasks tab, click Columns > Choose Columns.

  2. In the Choose TimeLiner Columns dialog box, select the check box next to one of the ten available user columns, for example User 1, and click OK.

Note: You can use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to reorder the columns. This order will be replicated in the Tasks tab.

The custom user column has been added to TimeLiner. By default, it has the same name as the option you selected in the dialog box.

  3. Right-click the added column, click Rename Column, and type in a new name, for example 'Cost'.

Note: To populate this column with data, you must map the user field (in this case, User 1) to the corresponding data field in each of the data sources. For more information, see Field Selector Dialog Box.

Delete a User Column

  1. In the TimeLiner window > Tasks tab, click Columns > Choose Columns.
  2. In the Choose TimeLiner Columns dialog box, clear the check box next to the user column you want to remove, and click OK.
