Group Clashes in the Navisworks Coordination Issues Add-In

Use the Navisworks Coordination Issues Add-in to quickly group clashes found by the Navisworks Clash Detective.

  1. Open models in Navisworks and use the Clash Detective to find clashes between them.

Note: See the Clash Detective User Guide for more information.
  2. Click the Coordination tab > Clashes panel > Create Groups.

  3. Use the Group Clashes dialog to specify the criteria you want to group your clashes by:

    1. Select clash tests - Select the clash tests that you want to group clashes from.

    2. Group by - Choose which criteria you want to group clashes by. Select the criteria using the radio buttons, and then use the corresponding drop-down list to select the specific grouping item. Choose from:

      • Layer - To group the clashes based on the hierarchical structure of the model, as shown in the selection tree.
      • Category and Properties - To group the clashes based on object categories, and system types or properties, as defined in the model.
      • Level - To group the clashes based on grid intersections or levels. The model must contain an active grid system to use this option.
Note: Additional groupings can be added to create more complex clash groupings by clicking the '+' and defining additional options as described in 3b. This allows for combinations of grouping options.
    3. Prioritize by - Specify which model or object you want to prioritize your clash groups based on. For example, if you choose Selection A, that model is treated as the primary object, against which the other model has been clashed.

    4. Add label - Select the check boxes to add today's date and a custom text label to the clash group name.

Note: Clash group names are generated based on the criteria selected, as well as any added labels.
    5. Group only statuses - Select which status clashes you want to group. For example, you may only want New and Active clashes to be grouped.

    6. Options:

      • Maintain Existing Groups - Select this check box to keep any clash groups you have already created using the Clash Detective. If you deselect this option, the new clash groups will overwrite any existing ones.
      • Populate Existing Groups - Select this check box to populate existing groups where possible. If you deselect this option, it will create new groups.
      • Group All Other Clashes - Select this check box to create a clash group containing any clashes that don't fit the specified grouping criteria. This group will be called Other.
    7. Preview - See the name the clash groups will be given, and how many groups will be created. You can also see the number of clashes that won't be grouped based on your criteria. If you select the Group All Other Clashes option, these clashes are put into a group called Other.

  4. Click Group Clashes.

The resulting clash groups are displayed in the Clash Detective window.
