Connection Type - Pinned Column Base (European Code EN 1993-1-8:2005)

Using the software, you can define and verify a pinned column base with or without stiffeners. It is possible to use column piers made of I-sections, box sections, or pipe sections.

During verification, the software applies the following code regulations:

During the connection analysis, the software checks the resistance of all components of a connection:

Total resistance of a connection for simple compression Nj,Rd is evaluated according to EN1993-1-8 section 6.2.8.2.

Nj,Ed / Nj,Rd ≤ 1.0

Total resistance of a connection for bending and/or axial force Mj,Rd, is evaluated according to EN1993-1-8 section 6.2.8.3 and Table 6.7.

Mj,Ed,y / Mj,Rd,y ≤ 1.0 or

Mj,Ed,z / Mj,Rd,z ≤ 1.0

Total resistance of a connection for shear Vj,Rd is evaluated according to EN1993-1-8 section 6.2.2 as a sum of bolt resistances, slippage resistance, and wedge resistance.

Vj,Ed,y / Vj,Rd,y ≤ 1.0 or

Vj,Ed,z / Vj,Rd,z ≤ 1.0

For connections with stiffeners, the software additionally checks the resistance of each stiffener, and the efficiency ratio of welds connecting stiffeners with the column pier (vertical welds) and with the base plate (horizontal welds).
