Define a HS End Plate Connection dialog

Use this dialog to create an end plate connection for collinear hollow sections.

Access

  1. Click Design Steel Connections Design.
  2. Click Connections New Connection HS End Plate.

Geometry tab

Use this tab to define the geometry of the connection.

Left side / Right side
Sets the parameters of the connection.
Note: The section type and the dimensions of the connection must be the same on both sides.
Stiffeners
Specifies the reinforced ribs parameters, if stiffeners are required for the connection.
Stiffeners can be placed at different intervals depending on the type of the section, and on the number of screws.
Stiffener placement with circular sections
No stiffeners No stiffeners.
One stiffener between each bolt.
One stiffener after every second bolt.
Note: This type of placement is possible for plates including a minimum of four bolts, and with an even number of bolts only.
Stiffener placement with square or rectangular sections
No stiffeners No stiffeners.
Vertical stiffeners.
Horizontal stiffeners.
Vertical and horizontal stiffeners.
Diagonal stiffeners.
The same material used for all components
Sets the same type of material for the stiffeners and for the plates.

Plates tab

Use this tab to set the front plate parameters.

Plates parameters
Sets the parameters of the plates.
Note: If the Material list is grayed out and you want to modify it, go to the Geometry tab and deselect The same material used for all components.
Varying (cyclic loads) [6.2.4.3 (b)]
Calculates the minimum thickness of the front plate in accordance with point [6.2.4.3 (b)] of the Polish code PN-90 / B-03200.
Note: This option is available with the Polish code PN-90 / B-03200 only.

Connectors tab

Use this tab to set the bolts and welds parameters.

Bolts parameters
Sets the diameter, grade, and arrangement of the bolts connecting the front plate.
For rectangular plates, you can specify if you want to align the bolts along a plate edge, or along a cross section.
Note: Some parameters are complementary and require only one input. The program then calculates the complementary distance. These parameters are e2H, p2, e1V, and p1.
Welds parameters
Specifies the thickness and the type of welds for bars and stiffeners.
