An active chilled beam consists of a heat exchanger and an integral air supply. It is normally suspended from a ceiling.
If a chilled beam is in an air system designated as a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS), its supply air flow rate is limited to the ventilation rate.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| System air flow | Constant | |
| Induction ratio | 2.5 | This is a fixed induction ratio. |
| Cooling discharge air temperature | 17°C | |
| Heating discharge air temperature | 29.44°C | |
| Air system primary air temperature | N/A | Determined by the air system (typically 12.7778°C). |
The cooling coil has the following assumptions.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Coil entering air temperature | N/A | Mix of air system and induced zone temperature. |
| Design coil leaving air temperature | 17°C | It is on the colder side of discharge temperatures. |
| Chilled water design inlet temperature | N/A | Set by the chilled water loop. |
| Chilled water design outlet temperature | N/A | Set by the chilled water loop. |
The heating coil has the following assumptions.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Coil entering air temperature | N/A | Mix of air system and induced zone temperature. |
| Coil leaving air temperature | 29.44°C | |
| Hot water design inlet temperature | N/A | Set by the hot water loop. |
| Hot water design outlet temperature | N/A | Set by the hot water loop. |
