Learn how to create, edit, and apply surface materials in your project.
Surface material types are a set of materials which are applied to walls, floors, ceilings and circumferences of a particular room type. Use these types to link rooms in the project with predefined surface materials. For example, a hospital with 100 identically equipped bathrooms can have materials applied to each by applying a single corresponding surface material type. For example:
Surface Material Type | Wall surfaces | Ceiling surfaces | Floor surfaces | Room circumference |
---|---|---|---|---|
Bathroom | Tiles; Plaster | Plaster; Wallpaper | Tiles | Skirting Tiles |
Habitable Room - Parquet | Plaster; Wallpaper | Plaster; Wallpaper | Parquet | Skirting Parquet |
Side Room - Screed | Paint; Plaster | Paint | Screed | Standard |
This global assignment of materials can then be easily changed by either editing the surface material type or individually editing the surfaces of the room.
If you do not link rooms with surface material types, then the room surfaces are calculated with the materials that are assigned to the element type (wall, floor etc.) by Revit. You have any freedom. See also the option "Consider materials (when by element is used)" on dialog page Calculate Room Quantities.
By default, predefined surface material types are loaded in any project with Roombook calculations.
