Create a Custom Fill Pattern

Create a custom fill pattern and import it into the project for use in the model.

Video: Create a Fill Pattern

  1. Create a custom pattern in a pattern (PAT) file.

See Custom Pattern Files for information and instructions.

Note: Default fill patterns are stored in the revit.pat and revit metric.pat files in the following location: %ProgramFiles%\Autodesk\Autodesk Revit 2023 Release\Data. The revit metric.pat file contains various metric masonry and iso patterns.
  2. Click Manage tabSettings panelAdditional Settings drop-down (Fill Patterns).
  3. In the Fill Patterns dialog, under Pattern Type, select Drafting or Model.
  4. Click (New fill pattern).

    The New Pattern dialog displays.

  5. For Type, select Custom.
  6. Click Browse.
  7. Navigate to and select the pattern file (PAT) to import, and click Open.
  8. Select the desired fill pattern.

Use Search to quickly locate fill patterns that match a text string. For example, brick matches Brick Masonry, Brickwork, and Masonry - Brick.

  9. If desired, enter or modify the pattern name.
  10. If desired, enter a value for Import scale.
  11. If you are creating a drafting fill pattern, specify how to orient the fill pattern in the host layers. See About Fill Pattern Host Orientation for details.
  12. Click OK twice.
