When you place a view on a sheet, a view title is placed as part of the Viewport family. The Type properties of the Viewport define which title family is used, how the extension line looks, and even whether the view title will be visible at all. To customize the information displayed in the view title, locate the view title family in the Project Browser. Right-click, and click Edit. The view title family opens in the Family Editor.

We'll customize the view title family by adding a label and selecting a view parameter to display in the view title. A 4mm label is added to report the phase of the view in the view title.

When you're adding a label, you can use shared parameters. For example, you can add an alternate view name to display the view name in a second language, say, Spanish. In the Edit Label dialog, select Add New, then select the parameter you want and add it to the label. In this example, the view title parameter and the alternate title parameter are combined to display in a single label with a colon separating the values.

Load the view title family back into the project and overwrite the parameter values. The phase of the view is now displayed in the view title. To make the alternate view name display, a project parameter must first be added to the views in the project. On the Manage tab, select Project Parameters. Select the Alternate Name parameter from the shared parameters file and apply it, as an instance parameter, to Views.

Now, select the view title. On the Properties palette, give a value to the alternate name parameter. The view updates to reflect your change. Modify view titles and parameters as needed to meet the requirements of your projects.
