Move a View-Specific Import to the Foreground or Background

You can move a view-specific import symbol between the foreground and the background of a view, with respect to model elements in the view.

If the import symbol is in the background of the view it will be positioned behind all model elements of the view. If the import symbol is in the foreground of the view, it is in front of model elements, such as walls. It is still behind detail components and annotations.

Note: View-specific import symbols are those files that are imported with the Current View Only option selected.

Import symbol placed in the background is drawn behind model elements.

Import symbol placed in the foreground is drawn in front of the model elements.

  1. Select the import symbol.
  2. On the Properties palette, for Draw Layer, specify Background or Foreground.
  3. Alternatively, select Background or Foreground from the Options Bar.

When an import symbol is set to Foreground, use sort order tools to move an import symbol in front of or behind detail components. When an import symbol is set to Background the sort order tools will have no effect on the import symbol. For more information on sort order tools, see Sort the Draw Order of Details.
