Import and Manage PDF Files

You can import PDF files with multiple pages into a 2D view to trace or to use as a reference as you create a model.

Importing and managing PDFs into Revit is similar to importing and managing raster images.

Note: You cannot import password-protected PDF files. Remove the password from the PDF file before you import it.

To import PDFs

  1. Open the 2D model view in which you want to place the PDF file.
  2. Click Insert tabImport panel (PDF). The Import PDF dialog displays.
  3. In the Import PDF dialog, navigate to the folder containing the PDF file to import.
  4. Select the file, and click Open.
  5. In the Import PDF dialog, select the desired resolution. If there are multiple pages, select the page with a thumbnail or by number, and click OK.

The imported PDF file displays in the drawing area and moves with the cursor. The image displays symbolically, with 2 crossing lines indicating the extents of the image.

  6. Click to place the image.
