Whether you import or link geometry from other sources, you should understand how the geometry behaves in Revit LT and what determines whether the geometry can be cut in a plan or section view.
In Revit LT, an object must be assigned a category in order for Revit LT to know how to cut it, whether in plan or section view.
Geometry in a 3D CAD files linked into a Revit model has no category assigned. 3D CAD files have an instance parameter to control cutting behavior. To allow the geometry in the geometry in the CAD file to be cut, select Enable Cutting in Views. For example, if you create a level at the elevation of a typical wall and then switch to a plan view, the imported geometry will not cut at that level unless you have selected Enable Cutting in Views for the CAD instance.
Another option to allow cutting of a 3D CAD file is to import the geometry into a cuttable family category (such as Generic Models). The geometry will cut in accordance with Revit LT’s cut planes.
To do this, create a new family.
Import your 3D CAD geometry into the family or model (you cannot use Link). You can use any of the cuttable family categories, but the Generic Models category will most likely meet your needs. After you load the family into the project, the imported geometry will cut according to the object styles assigned to the category used.
