Place multiple beam tags, annotations, and spot elevations on selected beams or all beams in the current view and linked models.
The Beam Annotations tool is only available when working in a structural plan or ceiling plan view. At least one structural framing tag specified to Rotate with Component in their family parameters must be loaded for the tool to be available.
- To tag specific beams, select them in the view. Otherwise, the Beam Annotations tool will tag all beams in the view.
- Click Annotate tabTag panel (Beam Annotations).
- In the Placement section of the Beam Annotations dialog, specify either All beams in the current view or All selected beams in current plan view.
- (Optional) Select Include beams from linked files if required.
- (Optional) Select Remove existing beam tags and spot elevations if needed. All tags and spot elevations will be removed from beams in the current file and replaced by those specified in the Beam Annotations tool. When deselected, no annotations will be placed on beams with existing tags. Annotations placed by the native application of the linked file cannot be deleted from Revit. If you select Remove existing beam tags and spot elevations, and there are linked-file annotations on beams, a dialog displays. You can choose to:
- Place the annotations on all beams.
Beams that are already tagged in linked models will show the new annotations as well as annotations from the linked file.
- Place annotations on the beams in the host file only.
Beams in the linked model will display the annotations in the linked file and will not be tagged with new annotations.
- (Optional) Click Settings to specify the Horizontal End Offset and Vertical Offset settings for tags and elevations.
- Specify the location of the annotation along the beam. Both level restricted beams and sloped beams use the same tagging options. However, you can make different annotations to either type of beam instance in a view.
- Select Level beams in plan or Sloped beams in plan to specify the annotation locations and types for each kind of beam.
- At the center of the tabbed page is an image of a beam surrounded by six text fields. The fields represent the locations of the tags as they appear around the beam. Click at the desired location of the annotation. You can place multiple annotations to each beam.
- Specify the annotation type. In the Select Annotation Type dialog, specify:
- None. The default annotation type setting. No new annotation is placed in this specific beam location.
- Structural Framing Tag. Select from the available structural framing tags for that location of the beam. If you need to load additional tags, the structural framing tag family parameters must be specific to be valid:
- Rotate with Component must be selected.
- Attachment Point must be set to <None> or match the position of the specific tag location.
- Spot Elevation. Select from the available spot elevation types and specify their type specific parameters. Only one spot elevation type can be placed at a time. If you change the spot elevation type in any of the 12 locations (6 for the level and 6 for the sloped), all 12 spot elevations will change.
- Beam Elevation (Project). Calculates the elevation from the lowest level of the project.
- Beam Elevation Relative. Calculates the elevation from the base relative level selected from the Relative Base drop-down.
- <Create/modify types...>. Opens the Family Type Properties dialog opens to edit an existing spot elevation or create a new spot elevation.
The Display Elevation drop-down list selects what elevation displays on the annotation. Specify Actual (Selected) Elevation, Bottom Elevation, Top & Bottom Elevation, or Top Elevation. Note that Top, Bottom, and Top & Bottom are measured from the beam geometry. Actual Elevation is measured from the level on which the beam is placed.
The final checkbox in the Select Annotation Type dialog enables a filter that prevents spot elevations from being created if it equals the entered value.
- Click OK to assign the multiple framing tags.
