Changing the Environment Geometry

Learn how to assign a sphere environment material to a different shaped environment geometry to eliminate distortion in VRED.

Video captions: Activate Boundings in your toolbar to activate the bounding box and receive feedback in your render window. Select the sphere environment material, Default_Environment. Upload an image of an interior file from your folder icon. Open the Transformation settings and adjust the values in which your HDR image was photographed. If you don’t know these values, work with approximate values from 0 to 1500. At best, your surrounding geometry is identical to the real geometry in which the HDR was taken. Alternatively, you can create your surrounding geometry accordingly. In order to do so, delete the sky dome geometry in your scene, by selecting the geometry and pressing the Delete button on your keyboard. Now, create a box using Scene > Create Geometry > Box with the size 10 000, 10 000, and 10 000. Then, assign the sphere environment material. Press Shift + R to activate the scaling transform tool. Scale your walls until the walls fit your projection. Now, the sphere environment material is adjusted to your scene optimally and without distortion.
