Laser Pointing

Use the laser pointer to point at things during a session. You need to initiate, execute, then terminate it, either with hand gestures or using your controller.

Initiating and Terminating the Laser Pointer

To initiate and terminate the Laser Pointer using gestures, see Laser Pointer.

To use your controller, you will use the trigger; however, keep in mind, there is no haptical feedback when pressing or releasing the trigger.

2023 VR and Performance Improvements Video Captions: We also did some changes for VR collaboration. In some circumstances, the laser pointer appears too big, as one user is very close to an object. This can be very disturbing, as the laser and pointer ball will cover a huge area, then. But now you can set the thickness of the laser and the pointer ball in relation to the object's distance within the preferences. And now the size always appears correctly, without disturbing too much.

Use the Virtual Reality > Interaction (tab) > Pointer preferences, to improve the experience when close to an object and using the laser pointer.

How to Use the Pointer

Line up your hand or controller with the content you want to draw attention to and squeeze the trigger to fire your laser pointer.

Pointer Display

  1. Press VR Menu on your controller.

  2. In the VR Menu, do the following:

    • For other participants to see your pointer and draw their attention to something, enable Share Pointer.
    • When engaging with touch sensors and not wanting to draw attention, disable Share Pointer. This way, the pointer is only visible to you.

How to Return to the Pointer

To return to using the pointer after hand poses, deactivate Hand Poses Only.

Swipe Scrolling Through Lists

When using the VR Menu, if you find the scroll bars hard to use when scrolling through a list, try swipe scrolling.

Press the trigger and move up or down to scroll through a list of options.

Note:

Pressing and releasing the trigger will select the highlighted option.
