Enforce the Working Folder

Enforce the working folder so that all users share the same working folder.

A working folder location is defined by default, so you can begin working with a vault immediately. The default working folder is:

• My Documents\Vault.
• C:\Civil 3D Projects.

The default working folder location can be changed by a user to a custom location. The vault administrator can also enforce a standard location, ensuring that all users have the same working folder defined.

The enforced working folder path can be:

• a network path: \\designco\users\jstewart
• a local path: C:\users\bkeaton
• a path containing a system variable for a directory: \\designco\users\%username%
• a path beginning with 'My Documents': My Documents\Vault

When the working folder is enforced, any previous working folder settings are replaced with the new path. If a user has changed the default location, a message is displayed indicating that the vault administrator has enforced the working folder location the next time the user logs into the vault.

If an enforced working folder location cannot be applied to user settings, the previous user-defined location is used. If there is no previous user-defined location, MyDocuments\Vault is used.

If the enforced working folder does not exist and the user does not have the necessary privileges to create the folder, the user won't be able to get or check out any file until the local folder is created.

Enforce the Working Folder Location

Note: You must be assigned the role of Administrator to perform this action.
1. Select Tools > Administration > Vault Settings.
2. In the Vault Settings dialog box, click the Files tab.
3. In the Working Folder section, click Define.
4. In the Working Folder Options dialog box, specify whether clients can define a working folder or whether a consistent working folder location is enforced for all clients.
5. If the working folder location is being enforced, specify the location for the folder in the Client Working Folder field or click ... to browse for a location.
   Note: The enforced working folder path can be a:
   • Network path: \\designco\users\jstewart
   • Local path: C:\users\bkeaton
   • Path containing a system variable for a directory: \\designco\users\%username%
   • Path beginning with 'My Documents': My Documents\Vault
6. Click OK.
Note: This setting is only for commands executed by the Vault. If you are opening Inventor files from the Vault Client itself, for example, and there are multiple .ipj files in the vault that could be used to locate any referenced files, a "Select project file" dialog box will appear asking which project file Inventor should use to open the files. See Open a File from Vault for more information.
