Visualization Management

The Visualization Management options let you specify which commands break the link between a data file in the vault and its corresponding visualization file.

When an operation causes a file to be versioned forward, the link to the visualization file is removed, preventing an out-of-date visualization file from being attached to the data file.

By default, the following commands remove the link to the visualization file:

If the option for a command to remove the link is turned off, then when that command is performed, the Visualization Compliance property for the data file is set to Not Synchronized to indicate that the visualization file attached to the data file is out-of-date and may not accurately represent the contents of the data file. When the data file is viewed, you are warned that the visualization file is not synchronized. You can either update the visualization file or manually verify that the visualization file is correct. When a visualization file is verified, the Visualization Compliance property for the data file is set to User Verified.

Visualization Management

  1. Click Tools > Administration > Vault Settings.
  2. In the Vault Settings dialog, click the Visualization tab.
  3. Click Commands.
  4. The Commands dialog lists the commands that cause a new version of a data file to be created. By default, all of the commands are set to remove the link between the data file and its corresponding visualization file. Turn off the check box next to a command to retain the link to the visualization file when the command is performed, but change the Visualization Compliance property to Not Synchronized.
Note: As a best practice, it is recommended that the default settings be used to prevent outdated visualization files from being attached to data files. Use the Update command to publish and attach a new visualization file.
