Use the Configuration dialog to define the parameters applied during the verification of a timber member.
Access
- Click Configuration in the Calculations - ANSI/AWC NDS-2012 dialog.
Dialog elements
The configuration dialog is slightly different depending on the method you selected.
The LRFD method features a time effect factor, and the ASD method allows you to set a duration for the loads.
- Calculation points
- Specify a number of calculation points or characteristic points:
- Enter the number of points that are evenly distributed along the member length.
- Select Characteristic points and then click Options to open the Calculations in Characteristic Points dialog.
- Calculation parameters
-
-
Efficiency ratio
Defines the coefficient by which the plasticity limit will be multiplied. This ratio increases or decreases the plasticity limit.
-
Maximum slenderness
Select this option, and then enter a value to Verify the slenderness of the member.
-
Components of complex members are not taken into account
Select this option to ignore complex members components for the members during the calculations.
- Time effect (LRFD)
- Select the source of the live load.
Note: The program uses the source of the live load to calculate the appropriate value of the Time Effect Factor according to the rules in Table N3 (Appendix N) of the code.
- Loads durations
- Opens the Loads Duration dialog which allows you to define the appropriate durations of existing load cases.
- Exclude internal forces from calculations
- Opens the Internal Forces Not Taken into Consideration dialog which allows you to define the limit values of internal forces.
- During the analysis, any force value that is negligible for a specific section will be disregarded.
