Project Objects To Multiple Section Views Dialog Box

Use this dialog box to specify projection rules and to select the type of objects to project.

Sample Line Group/Section View Group

Specifies which sample line group or section view group to project the objects to. This list is restricted to the object type that you select when you run the Project Objects To Multiple Section Views command before this dialog box is displayed. If you selected a sample line group but want to restrict the projection to a section view group, click Cancel, run the command again, and select a section view.

Projection Rules

Specifies the proximity area for objects to be projected. Objects whose insertion points are within this area and which meet the filter criteria that is specified in the Source Layers and Source Display columns, are projected.

The graphics update to show you how your choices impact the object selection.

  • By Percentage: Select this option and use the sliders to specify a percentage of distance before and after the sample line.
  • By Distance: Select this option and enter absolute distances before and after the sample line.
  • Note: For more information about the Projection Rules, see About Projecting Objects to Multiple Section Views.
Note: The Projection Rules do not apply to feature lines, survey figures or 3D polylines. Those objects are projected only when they intersect a sample line for a given section view.
Note: A distance or percent of zero projects non-linear objects whose insertion point is exactly on the sample line.
Object Type

Specifies which object types are projected. Objects of the type selected are projected if they fall within the area specified in the Projection Rules and if they meet the filter criteria that is specified in the Source Layers or Source Styles columns.

The following object types can be shown as projections and/or crossings in section views:

Object Type Projection Crossing
Autodesk Civil 3D COGO points Yes Yes
AutoCAD points Yes Yes
3D solids Yes Yes
blocks Yes Yes
multi-view blocks Yes Yes
3D polylines No Yes
feature lines No Yes
survey figures No Yes
Note: If some objects that you select are not within the swath width of the sample lines, they're included in the Object Count but they're not projected.
Note: The way that a solid that spans multiple sections is projected depends on the Projection Rules settings, the projection style settings, and the location of the solid. If any part of the solid falls within the area defined by the Projection Rules, then the solid can be projected to that section view. If you want to see a specific solid projected in a section view, you may need to manually select that solid and project it to the view.
Source Layers

Filters the selection of objects by layer. Specifies whether to project all instances of the object type, or only those that exist on selected layers. Click in a cell to display the Select Entities By Layer dialog box where you can select the layers.

Source Display

Filters the selection of Autodesk Civil 3D feature lines and survey figures by style and the selection of COGO points by point group. Click in a cell to display the Select Entities By Style dialog box or the Select Cogo Points By Point Group dialog box.

Object Count

Displays the number of objects of the object type that will be projected, after any filtering has been applied for specified source layers or source display.

Note: The Object Count value doesn't update based on changes to the By Percentage or By Distance settings in the upper part of the dialog box.
Edit Output Display

Specifies whether to draw crossings and projections and associated styles and labels, for each object in the object type and specifies the elevation option for each object. Click in a cell to display the Projection and Crossing Output Display Options dialog box where you can specify these settings.

Note: You can also control individual object settings later by using the Projections and Crossings tab of the Section View Properties dialog box.
